Welcome to my music recommendation page!

Before you continue onward, I just have some notes to post about this page:
There is absolutely no defined schedule to me posting these.
I'll include song links for convenience, but who knows if these links will go down in time.

Songs:"Stubborn Man" and "It Is What It Is"
Artist: The Antlers
Album: Green to Gold

Comments: Back with another recommendation today, actually. This time I want to share two songs at once, as they're best experienced together as a pair.

"Stubborn Man" was my most listened to song of 2022, and is actually still on track to be my most listened to song of 2023. I'm a bit obsessed. It's the sort of self-indulgent self-disapproval type song that I often put on and fall asleep to. To me, it's a song based in knowing how wrong or foolish I am. Knowing I'm making constant foolish choices, to my own detriment. I'm a stubborn man. It's the song that played all throughout the spiral that led to me dropping out of college and moving across the country last year. Lately I've been viewing the song a bit differently, though-- Taking a more positive look at it, and how my relationship with the song's lyrics has changed. I'm not doing a good job of explaining it, but beforehand it was largely "Aha, this is me, let me wallow in how pathetic I am." versus now, which is more along the lines of "Yeah, these are aspects of me, but I'm also above them. I'll still wallow sometimes, but I am more than this."

"It Is What It Is" just crushes me-- The knowledge that sometimes I really could have prevented irreversible things from happening-- That yeah, it is what it is, and I need to learn to live while accepting that. Of course, I could delve into the whole actual imagery of the song (the feelings caused by a probably-preventable suicide), but that isn't actually what speaks most to me about this song. I have lots of regrets, I've made lots of mistakes, and sometimes I just need to stare them down.

Song: Send Me On My Way
Artist: Rusted Root
Album: Party of Five
Link: https://youtu.be/RuV2agQPgps
Comments: Upbeat as hell, great for cleaning rooms and houses. My family knows it from the Matilda (1996) soundtrack, and it's one of my moms favorite songs. It's nice to just put on a happy song, watch her dance, and help clean the house. GRAHHHHHH! I'm a little emo. Love this song.

Song: Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales
Artist: Car Seat Headrest
Album: Teens of Denial

Comments: This song near-singlehandedly changed me as a person. Found it during a period in my life where I was a very hateful and angry person. It took me years after I stopped obsessing over this song to realize it, but I'd ended up taking a lot of the messages in this song to heart. Below are some lines from it that were the most formative to me as I am now:
  • You share the same fate as the people you hate
  • I have become such a negative person
It was all just an act
It was all so easily stripped away

Song: Impossible Soul
Artist: Sufjan Stevens
Album: The Age of Adz

Comments: 25 minute long marathon of a song with lots of very unique sections.
Super the-indomitable-spirit-of-humanity-core.
Also my mom liked it, so there's that going for it, I guess. I just can't stress enough how unique an experience this song is. Slap on some headphones and just sit down and vibe for a while. It deserves it. If you want another great song on the same album, check out the song "Age of Adz", the album's title track.

Song: "Smoldering Souls" and "Snapshots and Scrapbooks"
Artist: Minnetonka
Album: Orchard Street Songs

Comments: Found this album a few hours ago, and it was just such a neat discovery that it prompted me to actually remember I have this entire website and page. It's a 1998 album, so I expected to be able to find some information online about it, because surely it's been around for 25+ years, surely theres stuff online about it... I couldn't find a single mention of the band/artist or the songs ANYWHERE online. Finding something so unexpectedly small and unknown was just a bit shocking for how great this album is.
